Each year up to 30 artists, in the Shire of Nillumbik, (an area renowned for its artistic heritage) reveal their most private working places to the general public. 2009 is extra special, we celebrate 21 years of this great program! On the weekend of May 2 & 3, oil painters, printmakers, photographers, potters, glass slumpers, water colourists, textile and fabric artists will welcome you into their private creative spaces. Additional weekends will be held in November 21, 22, 28, and 29. This has to be one of the longest running programs of its type in Victoria. Further exhibitions at Montsalvat in November and the Eltham Community Library Gallery in April and November will give an overview of artists. The longevity of such a unique arts program is testament to the vibrant community of creative people that have made their homes in Nillumbik, the greenwedge municipality north-east of Melbourne. It’s a great opportunity, rarely offered, to see how creative minds work and the spaces that foster such creativity. You can help celebrate this unique and well deserved milestone. The special publication and booklet will detail all artists and their locations and help plan your route around these 30 studios. Nillumbik, where Melbourne meets the Yarra Valley 1800 813 153.
