Bairnsdale Racing Club has a long association with East Gippsland, having been established in the region in 1862. The Club is a well regarded fixture of the community with over 1000 members for the 2008/2009 Racing Season (being 1018 Full, 13 Young, 8 Life, 32 Honorary, & 51 Financial Life) The Club has been based at its current Racecourse Road location for 33 years, being Victoria’s most recently built race track. The Racecourse is a drought proof facility based on an ongoing sponsorship/support of East Gippsland Water, who provide continual access to recycled water

Bairnsdale is located on the Princes Highway with excellent (mainly duel carriageway and freeway) road conditions from Melbourne which ensures easy access for Melbourne based trainers as well as Cranbourne, Pakenham, Moe and Sale trainers who are all located on or with close proximity to the Highway. Travel from Melbourne CBD to Bairnsdale takes approximately 3.5 hours.
