The Red Hummingbird

Spot the red birdcage hanging above Russell Street and head for the stairs. You'll uncover a glamorous nest within; it's richly decorated with cushioned panels, gold frames and chocolate-toned wallpaper featuring dozens and dozens of the bar's namesake birdies. You can perch on the suede banquettes set around the fireplace and DJ space, or lean up against the standing tables along the wall.

Saunter up one more level and you'll discover the huge rooftop garden. Woven pod seats are artfully arranged alongside curved timber chairs. Architectural decking is mixed with some spiky plants and greenery to give it tropical feel. Well, the space is as tropical as Melbourne can get.

The Red Hummingbird has plenty of interesting beers and wine is available by the glass. However, mixology is the main drawcard. It's considered a practiced art here and there are approximately 30 cocktails to choose from. Dip your beak into the signature Red Hummingbird (Bacardi Gold blended with strawberries, vanilla and guava). If you're with a flock of friends, share a big jug of the Rooftop Spritzer which changes weekly. DJs play laidback Latin and French grooves on Fridays and Saturdays. If you need some sustenance during a long session, the staff can accommodate you by ordering in some tasty takeaway from close by.
