The short walk to the lighthouse on Point Hicks reveals important local history. In April 1770 Captain James Cook's first sighted the Australian mainland when he saw the granite headland. A display board at the lighthouse explains the area's fascinating history, including its shipwrecks and the location of a nearby Aboriginal midden.
