From Darby Saddle, the quiet trail leads through open forests of messmate, banksia, ferns and sheoaks before ascending a rocky ridge. Climb the short but steep sidetrack to Sparkes Lookout, for rewarding vistas along the coastline to the south, and north as far away as distant Cape Liptrap.
Enjoy a short break here or slightly further along the ridge at Lookout Rocks, a pleasant grassy spot with inspiring views of the offshore islands and the tip of Tongue Point far below.
Continue on through narrow avenues of tea-tree and windswept heathland, dominated by granite outcrops to the tip of the barren peninsula, where waves crash against weathered rocks encrusted with brilliant orange lichen.
On the return journey, take a short detour to Fairy Cove, one of the Prom’s most idyllic coastal havens. Sheltered by steep slopes covered in drooping sheoaks and framed by massive granite boulders, its tiny golden beach is a delightful and secluded spot to relax before the uphill return walk to the car park.
If you can arrange a car shuttle, you may prefer to continue north from Fairy Cove to Darby River.
