Werribee Open Range Zoo

Take a walk on the wild side and see animals roam freely at Werribee Open Range Zoo. The extensive grounds, developed around the picturesque Werribee River, are home to animals from the grasslands of Africa, Asia, North America and Australia.

Discover the sights and sounds of the African savanna as you come face-to-face with magnificent wildlife on an open vehicle adventure. Head out on safari across grassy plains where you’ll find rhinos, giraffes, zebras and antelopes grazing together on the savanna.

Open-vehicle safari tours are conducted by trained guides that provide an informed interpretation of the animals, their features and behaviour. Safari tours also visit the African waterhole, Australia’s only drive-through hippo exhibit.

Explore local grasslands of the Western Basalt Plains on the Volcanic Plains Walk and see the evolving recreation of these endangered grasslands. Don’t miss views of the Australian exhibit of kangaroos, emus and wallabies.
