Departing Tidal River at about 9am, the trek follows the old Telegraph Track from Telegraph Saddle, near Mt Oberon. The route passes through a variety of vegetation communities from low heathland to damp forests.

Walkers are required to make reservations for the Lighthouse cottages. It is necessary to take own bedding, towel, food and drinks. All rubbish must be carried out. It is essential all hikers arrive before dark – start walk at least six hours prior to sunset.
